A few weeks ago, we put a simple question out to our customers: “What’s your go-to order?” We expected a handful of responses. What we got instead was an outpouring of answers, opinions, and a few genuinely passionate defenses of specific dishes. So we tallied everything up, and here’s what the people had to say.

🥇 Chicken Biryani — The Undisputed Regular’s Order This one wasn’t close. Chicken Biryani came out as the clear favorite, and honestly, it makes sense. Layered basmati rice, marinated chicken, slow-cooked in the traditional “dum” style — it’s a dish that rewards patience in the kitchen and delivers every single time on the plate. A lot of responses mentioned ordering it as a “safe bet” for group orders, since it’s rarely anyone’s least favorite thing on the table.

🥉 Beef Bihari Kabab — The Dish Everyone Tells Their Friends About Rounding out the top three, Beef Bihari Kabab earned its spot largely because of how often people mentioned recommending it to others. Several responses specifically said something along the lines of “this is the dish I bring people here to try” — which says a lot about how confident people feel introducing new customers to this particular item.

What Stood Out Beyond the Rankings

While the top three dishes were interesting on their own, what really stood out was a theme that showed up again and again across dozens of responses: people describing the food as tasting “like home.” Not “authentic” in the vague, marketing-buzzword sense restaurants often use, but genuinely reminiscent of family cooking, childhood meals, or dishes they hadn’t had since visiting relatives.

That kind of feedback means more to us than almost anything else. Chef Nafisa didn’t build this restaurant to chase trends or reinvent South Asian cuisine — she built it to recreate the food she grew up with and share it with a community far from where she originally learned to cook it. Hearing that it still tastes like home to people, 24-plus years later, is exactly the validation that keeps a family restaurant like ours going.

• Goat Paya, mentioned by a smaller but incredibly loyal group of longtime customers

It’s worth noting that a “favorite dish” list like this says as much about the range of our menu as it does about any single item.
